Born in Hyogo, Japan, Hironao Kunimitsu graduated from Santa Monica College (California) in 2004. After graduation, he entered Atmovie Inc. and was appointed company director in the same year, his main roles being movie and TV drama production, as well as establishing new internet services. In June 2007 he founded mobile gaming company gumi Inc., now a publicly listed company on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In December 2015, Kunimitsu established Tokyo VR Startups Inc., to support Japanese VR startups through incubation programs and mentorship. Additionally, in 2016, he invested in VR-focused venture capital fund ”The VR Fund, L.P.”, for which gumi is a general partner. In 2016, he continued to support the global VR community through co-founding “Seoul VR Startups” in Seoul, South Korea.
